This year marks the 25th anniversary of German reunification. With the generous support of the Goethe-Institut, we are showing a range of films about the former East Germany and the post-1989 'Wende'.
Released 17 years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, Das Leben der Anderen (The Lives of Others) was the first major drama about the former East Germany after a series of comedies such as Goodbye, Lenin! and Sonnenallee. A portrayal of the Stasi surveillance state, the film won numerous awards, including the 2006 Academy Award for best foreign picture.
We will be screening the film in Te Puna Wananga at the Epsom campus of the University of Auckland. Entry is free for members and $5 for non-members.
