The Auckland Goethe Society invites you to attend Dr. Stephan Resch's Book Launch Presentation on Stefan Zweig's Ungeduld des Herzens (Beware of Pity) - A Critical Edition.

This event will be held in person at The University of Auckland Humanities Building 206, Room 315 (14A Symonds Street) on Thursday 16th June at 7:30pm and will also be live streamed via Zoom for those who wish to attend online. Please register your interest on Eventbrite and select the appropriate ticket type ("Attending In Person" or "Attending Online").

Stefan Zweig's Ungeduld des Herzens (Beware of Pity) is a classic of 20th century literature. It is a tragic love story set at the dawn of the Habsburg Empire revolving around the themes of love, guilt, pity and responsibility, which is as relevant today as it was in 1939 when it was first published.

Dr. Stephan Resch, Senior Lecturer in German at the University of Auckland, will talk about his work with the original manuscripts, read from the novel and tell the story of how a simple plot became a farewell to Habsburg Austria. The presentation and reading will be in German, followed by a discussion in both German and English. Signed copies of the book can be purchased after the presentation. Snacks will be provided.
