Oral Competition Prizegiving (October 22nd 2026)
/The Auckland Goethe Society celebrated the achievements of school students learning German at the annual Oral Competition Prizegiving.
For 78 years, we have supported German studies in Auckland, and for 76 years we have run annual German examinations for school students. This year, around 95 students from eight schools, spanning Years 7 to 13, took part. Congratulations to every participant and to all the prizewinners!
The German Ambassador, Kristina Jonek, was delighted to attend this year’s event. A highlight of the evening was guest speaker Elysha Negi, a prizewinner 10 years ago, who shared where life has taken her and the role German has played along the way.
Special thank you to Nicole Polke for her tremendous efforts in coordinating the competition. Thank you also to Stephan Resch (Associate Professor at the University of Auckland), Astrid Sandberg (President of the Auckland Goethe Society), Yona Brand (Head of the Language Department at the Goethe Institut), and Annika Hynek (DAAD Representative and Professional Teaching Fellow at the University of Auckland) for supporting the event.
Thank you to the committee members, examiners and helpers who donated their time and expertise, and to the German teachers who inspire their students every day.
